Road Delays and Parking Area Closures

Peaks 2 Plains Trail Construction Delays and Parking Area Closures

Due to the construction on the Peaks 2 Plains bike path in Clear Creek Canyon, there will be delays when driving through the canyon for the foreseeable future. Construction workers narrow the roadway to a one lane road, so there is typically only a 10-15 minute delay, but it can last up to 30 minutes on Fridays. This delay is Monday through Friday year-around. If you are coming from Golden and are climbing up by tunnel 5 and 6, it's recommended that you take I-70 to get there.

The Peaks 2 Plains construction crews have also shut down many parking areas to crags while they work on the trail, but also some parking areas may never open again. New Hipster and Sports Wall can now be accessed by Tunnel 1 parking, on the east side of the tunnel. For The Long Stretch, most of the parking has been shut down, but you can find some small pull-offs on the north side of the road.

Tunnel 5 Parking Warning, Frequent Ticketing!

Please be cautious when parking up at tunnel 5 parking areas! There are reports of climbers getting parking tickets for both parking in the wrong direction of the road and also parking in front of the "no parking" signs. This is a new development and is unfortunate that it is happening. Since the Peaks to Plains trail was created in this part of the canyon, parking has become a real issue, with new users like hikers and bikers parking here. So, watch out for the "no parking" sign on the south side of the road and park in the correct direction of the road, tickets have ranged from $80 to $100 from what we have heard.
